Hubluxe’s Variable inlet vane damper (VIV) or guided vane sometimes also called radial vane dampers are often used for capacity modulation. At reduced airflow they allow accurate modulation and power savings over other types of dampers. Hubluxe make Variable inlet vane or radial vane dampers are multi blade design best suited for fan inlet to enhance the fan performance.
For every inlet vane position, there is different capacity v/s static pressure curve and capacity v/s brake horsepower curve generated by the blower fan.
When the inlet vanes are partially closed, each blade directs the air in the direction of the impeller’s rotation. This action brings about reduction in the capacity, static pressure and (brake horsepower) BHP.
The resulting BHP savings at reduced capacity depends on the type of system and the type of blower-vane combination.

As compared to Butterfly damper and rectangular damper the variable inlet vane guide damper offers much better control.
Depending on the position of the blades, the inlet guide vane generates a pre-whirl which changes the fan’s performance curve. The power requirement curve of the fan also changes as per the change in angle.
The direction of the pre-whirl must always be in the same direction to that of fan’s rotation (refer to the figure).
Stall at guiding blade of inlet guide vane damper:
By reducing the flow excessively by inlet vane damper will result into a critical stall at guiding blades under specific conditions. These are unfavourable flow conditions and small range of angle when the guiding vanes strongly to almost closed.
Such critical stall are avoided by an optimal design of aerodynamic inflow and by not setting the vanes to the special critical angle.
Setting the inlet guide vane damper to > 600 (degree) should be avoided by all means.
