What is a Goggle Valve? Working Principle & Functions

What is a Goggle Valve? #

A Goggle Valve is a specialized, large-diameter isolation valve used in heavy industrial ductwork. Its primary purpose is to provide a guaranteed, physical shut-off of hazardous gases, ensuring absolute safety for personnel during maintenance.

How goggle valve works? #

Named for its unique shape, the valve features a robust rotating plate that resembles a pair of goggles. This plate has two positions: an open ring (for normal flow) and a solid disc (for full blockage). To operate, the valve body mechanically unclamps, allowing the plate to swing between these open and closed positions, effectively isolating the pipeline.

Where goggle valve are used? #

In critical sectors like Steel and Petrochemicals, relying just on standard valves isn’t enough for toxic media like Blast Furnace Gas or Coke Oven Gas. The Goggle Valve delivers 100% positive isolation (also known as “Man-Safe” shut-off). This creates a visible, breach-proof barrier that prevents toxic gas leakage, protecting workers who need to enter the downstream duct for inspection or repair.
