Parts of Butterfly Damper - Round shape:
- Frame: Mild Body steel conforms to IS2062, and boiler grade steel conforms to IS2002 with continous welded flanges. Structural channel is available for larger size dampers.
- Vanes: A single thick plate is offset and formed at the shaft to provide additional strength, with reinforcing ribs added as needed for the intended service. The vane is welded to a continuous through-shaft made from stainless steel or other corrosion- and abrasion-resistant materials.
- Shafts: The shaft ends are marked to show the vane position, and the shafts are made of stainless steel, available as continuous or stub types.
- Bearings: Ball or bush bearings are mounted outboard on stand-offs, positioned above adjustable packing glands.
- Gland: The unit features an adjustable plate and follower design. It is sealed with standard fiberglass rope packing, with options for ceramic rope or other commercially available packing materials to suit specific application requirements.
- Seals: No internal vane seals are provided. Instead, a tight swing clearance between the vanes and the frame is engineered to achieve approximately 98% shut-off when the damper is in the fully closed position.
- Paint: The damper undergoes hand cleaning and receives one shop-applied coat of a standard industrial primer. Custom painting is available and will be applied according to the customer’s specifications.
- Operator: An extended operator shaft is provided as standard for operating it with actuators. A comprehensive range of manual, electric, and pneumatic operators is available. These can be configured with options for modulating control, fail-safe operation, and position switches, and will be assembled based on the customer’s specific requirements.
Note:
- The Hubluxe Butterfly dampers are available as Lever / manual Butterfly dampers, Pneumatic actuated Butterfly damper-low leakage construction, Three phase Electric actuated Butterfly Damper-low leakage construction.
- Make: Hubluxe
- All dampers undergo a strict quality checks and performance test before they are ready for shipment.

A butterfly damper valve is designed to regulate or isolate airflow, gases, or light liquids in industrial systems. It features a rotating disc that opens or closes to adjust flow rates, making it ideal for HVAC, power plants, and exhaust systems.
The main difference between a valve & damper is that valve is installed in a pipeline to control or regulate the fluid flow while a damper is installed inside a duct, chimney, VAX box, air handler or any air handling equipment that regulates the flow of air or gases.
It act as cut off point in those areas where flow of air/gases are not required.
A well-designed butterfly damper HVAC system is used in air handling units, main duct lines, exhaust ducts, and ventilation zones to control, regulate, or isolate airflow.
It is ideal for applications that require efficient air distribution and effective flow management.
A butterfly damper works by using a circular disc (or blade) mounted on a central shaft to regulate or isolate airflow inside a duct. By rotating this disc, the damper increases or decreases the space available for air to pass through, effectively controlling the volume and pressure of gas in a system.
The operation is driven by an actuator (manual, pneumatic, or electric) attached to the external shaft. When the actuator turns, it rotates the internal disc anywhere from 0° (fully closed) to 90° (fully open). This rotational movement allows for precise flow modulation, enabling operators to maintain specific process conditions or shut off the flow entirely for maintenance.
Unlike standard valves, industrial dampers must handle high-volume, low-pressure applications, often involving high temperatures or dust load. To ensure efficiency, Hubluxe Engineering designs the sealing contact between the disc and the body to minimize leakage (tight shut-off). This construction ensures durable performance in HVAC and industrial exhaust systems, complying with ISO quality standards for safety and longevity.
